Teaching sits at the core of my artistic practice. It brings me joy and it sharpens my heart.

In addition to my university-teaching experience, I have spent a decade of summers teaching students from professional training programs all over the country. I am deeply interested in the challenging process of developing curriculum and program structures that will support and guide the next generation of theatre-makers. My specialty is teaching and directing language pieces: transforming classical text into something active and authentic–or engaging directly with playwrights and actors on the creation of new work.

I thrive in spaces that belong to young artists — and love the continual challenge of learning how to support and free the creativity of each individual student. I am at my best in studio and workshop settings, and relish any opportunity to collaborate with students at the undergraduate or graduate level.

I have taught playwriting, text analysis, introduction to theater and fundamentals of acting at the university level. I have also run a professional training program for classical actors at the BA, BFA and MFA level. See below for my full theater + education CV.
