In a fit of insomnia and procrastination I watched one of my favorite shows, So You Think You Can Dance, for two hours last night. At one point, a clearly incompetent and probably cracked out (though very amiable) stripper came onto the stage, told the judges that she had forgotten her dance, and then proceeded to make one up.
It was terrible.
The judges could have pointed out the girl’s obvious unsuitability, scolded her for wasting their time, and asked her to leave. Instead, they told her they loved her spirit, they enjoyed meeting her, they shook her hand, and jovially sent her on her way.
I personally think that the judges looked at the situation, realized the she had already danced and their input wasn’t really going to change anything. Instead of getting angry, they found something to enjoy. They chose the exclamation point.
Because sometimes in life, strippers are going to get up and dance. The only thing you can control is your reaction.
